Congratulations Panthers - 2010!

whs_graduation

This past weekend we had the glorious and fun job of creating flowers for Washougal High School’s 2010 Graduates! This year we decided to create a panther paw of flowers surrounded by tropical foliages and stunning ‘Orange Unique’ roses in a vegetative design style! It was great fun to create and stunning for our future of Washougal…GO PANTHERS!

Earth Tones Recycled Art

This month we are featuring a local artist with all the creative juices and energy to fit right in among our crowd!
Mike Meyer…a local earth-friendly garden artist!

Mike Meyer starting making birdhouses and bird feeders as gifts for family and friends. He fell in love with the creative process and in 2000, along with his equally talented wife Barbara, formed Earth Tones. They have been selling their unique art work at the Vancouver Farmer’s Market ever since.

In 2003, Mike was juried into Cracked Pots, an organization dedicated to recycling and the art created from recycled materials. You can see his garden art every year at the annual Cracked Pots Garden Art Show held at McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale, Oregon), in July.

Mike and Barbara use everything from tin cans, bottles and garden hoses to CD’s, rope and fabric in their, earth friendly, recycled and unique creations. They just finished a successful Yard, Garden and Patio Show at the Oregon Convention Center. For more information…give them a call 360.256.2392

Big Bench Birdhouse

Every once in a while you hit the jackpot. The treated 2×2 4 foot cedar pots used to create this structure were leftovers from a large construction site. When my good friend asked if I wanted them I had no idea he would bring me a pallet full. There must have been a hundred of them! I often wonder how chemically treated lumber is disposed of? -Mike

$400 with birdhouse…can be sold separately…please inquire

Go forth and be married…Vivian!

030510-211

Vivian got married 7000 feet about Timberline in the rustic Silcox Hut a weekend or so ago. Being she is a park  ranger herself, it seemed the perfect place for her future husband and her to  make their love and vows complete. Her choice of flowers also seemed perfect, from mosses, branches, rabbit foot ferns, succulents and fern curls, to soft romatic flowers like garden roses, tulips and ranunculas, this look evoked both of their personalities perfectly!  Textural wonderment was created by Julie…a lover of anything native and Northwest! Truly Breathtaking!030510-011

Congratulations Miss Laura!

This last weekend, we delivered an elegant and simple wedding to Skamania Lodge. Laura  Knight’s bouquet consisted of dusky Sahara roses, fragrant freesia, miniature calla lilies, dendrobium orchids and blousy hydrangea. Cascade bouquets are popular this year, and this timeless one, is right along the lines of what our brides are looking for.

A bouquet of Sahara roses was created as her toss bouquet with tons of trailing ribbon. This bouquet was constructed so that it would explode into many bouquets when tossed.

Her cake, created by JaCiva Bakery of Portland. It was created using white chocolate with white chocolate roses. We embellished it with flowers in the layers. Simple and beautiful!

Karla’s Cascade of Dreams

It’s been a whirlwind of wedding activity this last couple weeks! One of our weddings was a casual simple one for Karla. Although her bouquet was beautifully elaborate! With starfighter lilies, fuschia roses, freesia aspidistra foliage and lily grass, this cascading bouquet is full and wonderful! Erik has never created such a large and fragrant bouquet for a bride! She loved it! SUCCESS!

The Sky’s the Limit!

This past week, Erik Witcraft had the wonderful opportunity to attend the prestigious nationally recognized AIFD (American Institute of Floral Designers) symposium in Kansas City, Missouri. Not only is this a chance to get inspired by some of the world greatest floral designers, but it is also a chance to get certified as a world-wide recognized master of floral design. Erik tested among 120 other applicants from around the world. He will find out if he passed the certification testing within about 4 weeks.

This table design swirls with excitement formed from a curly willow amature. Grasses, reeds, flowers and fruit complete this contemporary centerpiece design.

This pocket square boutonniere is fun and light. Erik created this as one of his five challenges in the AES evaluation process.
Below are just some of the designs that were featured at this year’s symposium. From super contemporary designs to lavish overflowing romantic designs, this symposium had it all!

This wall sculpture of ti leaves in mass created a fantastic background for a cascading design of orchids, calla lilies and string of pearls.

This tall design of twigs, bits and bamboo supported roses, orchids, calla lilies and peacock feathers!

This cylindrical design had pretty much all of the callas in Missouri in it! Roses, gloriosa lilies, and anthurium created the vibrant orange stripe through the middle!

Melissa + Marriage

We did a very casual wedding this last weekend for a local bride and groom getting married outside. Melissa’s bouquet consisted of peonies, garden roses, dahlias, lavender, lady’s mantle, fever few and garden foliage. Beautiful and casual for a perfect late spring bride!
